One short passage, read closely together. This example is a famous couplet by the Pashto poet Rahman Baba.
ګل دې کره
چې ګلزار دې شي ګرد چاپېره
ازغی مه کره،
په پښو کې به دې خار شي
Gul de kra, che gulzār de shi gərd chāpera.
Azghay ma kra, pə pṣ̌o ke ba de khār shi.
Plant flowers, so all around you becomes a garden. Don’t plant thorns; they will prick your own feet.
Gul de kra, “plant a flower”. Pashto poetry often speaks directly to you, using the simple command form of the verb.
Che joins the reason to the command: plant flowers so that everything around you blooms. It’s one of the sentence models you’ll use every day.
Ba … shi means “will become”. Spot ba and you know the line is talking about what will happen.
A flower garden.
A thorn. Its mirror in the poem is gul, a flower.
